Recently, we ventured to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic for a friends wedding.  We stayed at the Majestic Elegance.  After a year and a half of working pretty much straight out, it was great to get away and take a break!  Here’s a look back on our trip!

This was my 3rd trip to the Dominican Republic.  I really enjoyed it!  Our resort was an all-inclusive which was very nice!  I loved the mojitos during the week, very refreshing.
Where have you gone on vacation recently?

Over the weekend, Habitat for Humanity Metrowest had its annual fundraiser event, Spring Fling.  Last year they raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help local families.  The event had an incredible sale of new and gently used items for your home, including sinks, windows, and furniture.  Other outside vendors also joined in and live music was happening all day.  Take a look for yourself.

Rich, delectable, sweet chocolate.  You can’t go wrong with a tour of chocolate stores!  For a friend’s bachelorette party, that’s just what we did!

We began at Hotel Chocolate
IMG_20130511_141538We sat in the tasting room, trying out different types and learning how to properly “taste” dark chocolate!  I didn’t know there was a method!IMG_20130511_142348They had Chocolate Pasta!IMG_20130511_142625And I almost bought these!  yum!IMG_20130511_142710How rich?!IMG_20130511_145303Next stop was Teusher Chocolatier.  Swiss Chocolates IMG_20130511_144726Beautiful Boxes, all decorated with flowers.IMG_20130511_145836We swung by Sweet for a double chocolate cupcake, amazing! IMG_20130511_152754Next stop was Robins.  They had the world’s largest Marshmallow, Gummy Bear, Whoopie Pie and all kinds of sweets!  Here, I sampled a chocolate covered cricket, not bad!IMG_20130511_151709That would be the World’s Largest Marshmallow, for those bonfire nights on the beach!

I walked away satisfied with all the goodies I tried!  (even the chocolate covered cricket!)  There were a few other stops along the way, but I don’t want my post to ruin all the fun.
I would absolutely do it again and I think the next tour I would try would be their new cupcake tour!
Check out Boston Chocolate Tours here, you’ll learn a lot and try a lot!  Cheers to chocolate!

I was so happy that one of my first “Wedding Events” being newly engaged happened to be at one of my favorite places, Crompton Collective in Worcester.  If you haven’t been there yet, you need to go!

There are so many cute things around the store, whether you like crafts, antiques, re-purposed items or vintage clothing, this store has all things cute!  I was thrilled when I saw that they were having this event!  Here are some photos from the event:

This event was an excellent one!  Thanks Crompton Collective and your amazing vendors!  I’ll be back soon for some more furniture/accessory shopping!

That’s right, The Superbanite is getting ready to go from a Miss to a Mrs.  A few weeks later, I’m still in shock!  Here’s the story so many people have been asking for:

My amazing boyfriend…errr…fiance took to me to Top of the Hub in the Prudential Center in Boston.  Thinking that this would just be another one of our nice dinners out, I had no idea what I was in for.  We enjoyed a nice dinner with a view of the city just as the sun was setting.

viewA view from our table

After we had dinner, he told me he was cold and reached for his jacket.  He didn’t look as though he was feeling well, so I asked him if he was ok.  I thought it was weird, since he’s never cold and I felt quite warm when I’m normal freezing. I reached for my martini and took a sip as I looked out to the city lights coming on.
When I looked back at him, he told me he had a question he’s been meaning to ask, and placed a little red box on the table.  He said “I don’t want you to be my girlfriend any more, I want you to be my wife.”  I feel like I may have yelled it, but I said yes and started to cry.  I was so shocked.

MeA look at the aftermath, I’m so happy, but teary!

Our waiter, who was excellent, came over a few minutes after with complimentary champagne and our desert which I could barely eat because I was so excited.

congratsCongratulations in chocolate!

Now that this has happened, I have a lot of planning ahead.  However, I’d like to take time to enjoy the glow of being engaged.  No, we don’t have a date yet and we really haven’t done any planning, but we’ll get there.  For now, I am so thrilled to have met a person I am so deeply in love with, some one I share my adventures in life with.

I assure you, my blog will not be overridden with posts about wedding planning.  I’ll keep that separate, but if you’d like updates, please check them out!  I’ll be sure to post links for you.  Lots of DIY and fun ideas to come!

handFinally, this photo does not do the ring justice, but here it is!

Thank you all for the well wishes.  I can’t wait to marry my best friend!  Cheers!

I was able to attend Stylefixx for the second time.  This event allows you to check out some local vendors in fashion, beauty, and hair, while you enjoy wine, beer, snacks and try out some services.  Plus, you get a pretty neat Swag Bag with all kinds of great freebies, like beauty products, snacks, and coupons!  Here’s some photos from the event:

A fun night had by all, looking forward to the event again in the fall!*K

It’s catching on!  You may have heard of swapping clothes, accessories, home goods, food, and books.

So what the heck is this craze all about?!
The days of hitting up the mall for many of your clothing needs, your books, and the supermarket for your store have begun to fall by the wayside.  Let’s face it, it’s boring to walk around by yourself, seeing the same things everyone else has and it’s expensive!

A creative idea was born.  Swaps!  Imagine, a night with friends, making new friends, networking, drinks, food, vendors, swapping out items you may not want for others, all for $20.   Plus, many swaps end up donating goods or profits to local charity.

Recently, I attended another one of Trust In Tricia’s Style Swaps at the Easton Country Club.  This benefited Easton Women of Today.  This swap was a combination of house wares and clothing.  I was able to swap some items that we gently used but I no longer used or wanted for some beautiful unique items.  Here are some photos of the event and some of my goodies I got!

Photos from the event, raffles, card readings, massage, food, and of course the swap!

Here are just a few of my finds!  A Chaps Dress, tags still on.  Lots of Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft stuff.  Pictured here the leather jacket has the tags still on.  True Religion Jeans, brand new!  A polka dot dress (one of my fave patterns) and a nice new frame!

Locally, I’ve also been attending a monthly book swap in my town.  No, it’s not a book club.   Once a month, we get together bring books to swap and enjoy each other’s company over some wine and snacks.  This swap is free, and I have gotten some great books!  I love this event because it gives me an opportunity to catch up with people, network, and have some much needed social time.

IMG_20130418_083339
My books are ready to go for next month’s swap!

There are many other swaps as well.  Perhaps you’ve heard of the Boston Food Swap, the Man Swap at SOWA Market, and kids clothing swaps!  Look around, there’s probably one going on near you!

So what are you waiting for?  Get out there and go to a swap today or create your own!

One year ago, I had the opportunity to enjoy dinner at Top of The Hub in Boston with three friends.  The dinner was put on by Grey Goose Vodka and Boston Globe Events.  It was the night before the marathon.   Now, I know there will be a lot of stories like this floating around, but I felt I should share.

We arrived at the Prudential Center, after navigating our way through the streets in a cab, since so much had been shut down in preparation for the Boston Marathon the following day.  Myself, my boyfriend and two of our best friends were dressed in our best.  The weather was unseasonably warm.  We took an elevator to the top, our ears popping on the way up.

When we entered the restaurant, a photographer was there from the Boston Globe and we were escorted to the best seats in the house.  The ones at the very corner of the building overlooking the Charles River.  From every angle, we could see the city, out to the ocean and back.   It was truly breathtaking.   During our dinner, the sun was setting over the city and we could not help but continue to look out the windows, awe struck by the scenery.

taking it all in

Taking in the view

All of us have a strong connection to the city, whether we lived here, grew up here, family worked here, whatever it was,  we love this city!

Many people feel this connection, but our experience at the Top of the Hub that day was made very special because of this.  All the memories we have, together as friends, separate with family or on our own.  We all reminisced and discussed these memories over our delicious dinner.

Our tasting menu, paired with Grey Goose Cocktails.

Not a care in the world, just joy.  So many photos were taken and we were just smiling the whole time.  The next day, Patriots Day, Marathon Monday, another day to be proud of our city.  We saw some of the marathoners on TV, enjoyed some time on the beach in the beautiful weather and life was good.  A joyful weekend, filled with gratitude, memories and pride.

However, I refuse to let those things be tainted by the events of April 15, 2013.  Those memories are all still good ones which I will enjoy revisiting.  I will still venture into the city for work, for family, for friends, for games and events.  I will not let who ever wanted to rain on the parade or the marathon for that matter, ruin it.  In Boston, a little rain is nothing we can’t over come.

So I will place my efforts where I can best, towards enjoying life during every moment.  Towards sharing love with those in my life.  Towards working to make this world better in any way I can.  I will not feed the hate that I want to feel right now but help in any way possible.  My thoughts are with all those touched by this horrific event.  I hope that we can all live as if today could be our last because these days you never know.

Cheers!

We started the weekend with another massive snowstorm here in New England.  This is a scene I’m growing a little tired of:
IMAG0336Though I adapt quite well to the snow, I can see my sandals peeking out from my closet, wondering if it’s time to come out of hibernation yet.  Soon sandals, soon.  In the meantime, I decided to try to get outside for some more snowshoeing.   Saturday was a PERFECT day for snowshoeing.  It was 55 degrees out, sunny, but the snow was still on the ground and in perfect conditions for snow shoes.  So off I went!
IMAG0391

This was the Superbanite Pup, Kona, loving playing in the snow in the warm weather!  She loves to be outdoors on the trails no matter what the weather is!IMAG0286Since we have our fireplace up and running and it was a little chilly at night, I enjoyed a glass of wine and good book next to the fire on Saturday night.  Pretty soon, we’ll be enjoying fires outside, with s’mores and a  few beers.  I can’t wait!
IMAG0389

Celebrations were in order this past weekend, as I had finally passed my last test for my job.  That is, until I go back to school in May!  Champagne was popped and enjoyed, cheers!

IMAG0399 More champagne was enjoyed as I had brunch with some of my favorite bloggers!  Our wonderful hostess was Georgina.  Check her  blog out here!IMAG0400We had a beautiful place setting for us, including a notebook, which was useful for our conversations regarding fashion, beauty tips and other blogs to check out.  Plus, it’s helpful to have some paper to write down ideas that may be triggered from that conversation.

IMAG0402What is brunch without a mimosa bar!  Each of us brought a bottle of champagne, and enjoyed mimosas as well as all the amazing food Georgina had made for us.  Black pepper and brown sugar bacon, mini egg frittatas, scones, fruit salad and so much more!  It was great to catch up and chat, plus meet some new people as well!

Finally, I ended my weekend with a little bit of Sushi a relaxing evening of reading.  I’m so excited I can read books for pleasure again, finally getting through the Hunger Games Trilogy since I had to put it off to study for the past 6 months.   I have to get ready to prepare my summer reading list soon, so I need to catch up from last year!

How did you make your snowy weekend brighter?
